The scope of the new Law No. 21.240, which amends the Criminal Code and Law No. 20.393, in order to increase liability and criminalize new crimes against public health, and expand the catalogue of crimes for which legal entities are criminally liable, were the topics discussed in a new webinar session of JDF Abogados.

On this occasion, the conducts considered as crimes and the situations in which responsibility is aggravated and legal persons are sanctioned were reviewed.

A very interesting and instructive internal webinar talk was conducted by JDF Lawyers to find out the scope of permits and authorizations in periods of restriction, as a consequence of the COVID-19 outbreak.

On this occasion, the current limitations imposed by the health authority were recalled, such as the curfew, quarantine and sanitary cords, as well as the instructions in force for specific cases and the next limitations that will begin to apply to try to stop the contagion curve.

After returning from the international law firm Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in London, where he also completed an LL.M. in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution, at Queen Mary University of London, Ramón Jara Contreras rejoins the Dispute Resolution and Litigation team of Jara Del Favero Abogados in the context of the relaunch of the practice.

His practice focuses on civil and commercial litigation, national and international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. He has been involved in cases under different jurisdictions and rules, such as CCI, CIADI, CAM Santiago and ad-hoc. He has extensive experience in different areas of law and in disputes before different courts, whether special, ordinary and higher Courts of Chile. He advises and represents clients in a wide range of sectors including natural resources, infrastructure, construction, energy, financial and commercial sector, shareholder conflicts, automotive, among others.

During 2019-2020, he worked as a foreign attorney in the International Dispute Resolution Group (IDRG) of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in London.

Ramón is a lawyer from the Universidad de los Andes and holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.), in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution, from Queen Mary University of London. He is currently undertaking the Diploma of New Trends in Contracts and Damages from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

A new member of staff has joined Jara Del Favero Lawyers, as of June 1, 2020.  Macarena Naranjo Opazo, who studied law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, Macarena will be part of the Corporate and Competition areas in JDF.

Macarena Naranjo previously worked at the Office of the Superintendent of Education, where she focused her practice on sanctioning administrative law; and also in the private sector, in FerradaNehme, where she provided advice to national and foreign clients in the application of the rules of Competition and antitrust, achieving an outstanding and recognized experience and trajectory record.

Macarena has a Master of Laws (LL.M) from Columbia University, New York, Fulbright Scholar and Becas Chile.
